Alcohol a Sin?

The Bible has a lot to say with regards to drinking alcohol but the good news for some Christians reading this is that it never forbid Christians from drinking beer, wine, or any drink that contains alcohol.

Drinking alcoholic drinks can get addictive when one is not careful with how much one drinks. The effects can appear sometimes worst than just a sin but getting drunk from drinking too much can cause people to make silly mistakes in life.

do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.” – 1 Corinthians 6:9-10

Among all the sins listed above verse, drunkards is part of it and if one is not careful not to repent they will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Drunkenness is A Sin

Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,” – Ephesians 5:18

It is interesting to note in this verse there is a contrast between being drunk and being filled with the Spirit. While many people might seek alcohol to get away from their daily problems in life, here we are encouraged to be careful with how we live and be led by the Spirit and not be addicted to sex, alcohol or drugs.

Many teens and adults today, approach alcohol as a way of life today to relax and relieve their stress and problems. But here we read the Bible discourages that and be wise how we live for Christ.

Note What Your Body Desires

“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” – Galatians 5:16

Christians should always “walk by the Spirit” which means to obey and seek God daily for directly and guidance but not on the desires of your flesh.

Sometimes, you might easier way out to our problems by getting drunk and getting high to overcome your issues but it’s not a good long term solution to your problems.

For each time, you faced a problem and think drinking will solve, you have to be remember you are accountable to God for your actions daily ( Romans 14:12 ).

Getting Drunk Can Lead To Idolatry and Mind Control

When you drink too much alcohol and get drunk you subject yourself to having less control of yourself and unknowingly doing things that sin against God.

When you are drunk, you effectively choose to give yourself over to the control of something else which in this case is the alcoholic drinks instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to guide you. Anything that takes control of your mind or emotion can be considered a false god and worshiped when not careful.

Over Come Alcoholic or Drunkenness

It’s not hard to overcome these issues, here are some practical steps you can do today to overcome them.

  1. Acknowledge you have this issue on being drunk or the love of alcoholic drinks.
  2. Pray and seek Jesus today and repent from the desire of your flesh of alcoholic drinks.
  3. Seek help from your local pastor and tell them you need help to overcome this problem
  4. Be aware of what your body desires more of that is sinful and rebuke those temptations from satan daily.
