Peace of God Real?

Can you really experience peace from God? The word peace has been mentioned 523 times in the bible. One of the promises by Jesus says:

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” – Mathew 11:28-30

Jesus here clearly gives this promise to anyone who wants to have peace and rest are invited to come to him and believe in peace.

The term peace is also described in the Bible many times as a gift from God and is His character to give you that peace as well

Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep – Hebrews 13:20

How To Experience Peace in God?

First of all, you have to want to believe and accept the peace offered by Jesus. The closer you draw close to Jesus, the more of His peace you can enjoy today.

Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. – James 4:8

What Must You Do To Come Close To God?

Psalm 24:3–4 says

Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god.

Here we see two things happening, firstly one has to clean and pure heart with God? That’s means if you do have something that needs surrendering and repentance, it recommended that you first confess them to Jesus for forgiveness before seeking God. As Jesus also promises this

If we confess our sins, he (Jesus) is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. – 1 John 1:9

Secondly, there are times we may unknowingly sometimes trust in idols or false gods which need to be let go from our life first before we come to God. Idols or false gods may come in various forms such as actually statues, money, children, addictions, pets, loved ones, loss of loved ones, or careers are just some key examples that even Christians accidentally treat as idols without realizing it.

Ensure You Release All Your Burdens and Troubles to Jesus

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. – John 14:27

If you desire to get peace from Jesus, do not be afraid to surrender them to Jesus. It is always a good idea to not let your hearts be troubled by the things you are experiencing today in this world.

As promised in the verses above, Jesus will give you that peace if you look to him today.

Careful Certain Attitudes Can Destroy Your Peace of God

Many Christians are not aware of this but most times we equate trust with the assumption that God will give us whatever we want or pray. If you pray and think like this, you are setting up yourself for more disappointment.

The Bible does have examples of God not answering prayer the way people prayed and one clear example we can see from Paul’s life below:

“I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” – 2 Cor 12:7-9

Some scholars refer to the thorn as a sickness that Paul is experiencing here. Three times Paul pleaded God to take it away but here God is showing Paul something else that his power is made perfect in weakness.

Trust in God means, you have to set your hearts to believe God, whatever is the outcome good or bad we have to learn to accept them.

When you insist on being in control, God’s desire to give you that peace will be blocked. Instead of you receiving peace, you will get more bitter and frustrated with God which sadly that’s what some Christians do today.

When you choose to worry over faith, you cannot live in peace in Jesus. Jesus warn us about this here:

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” – Matthew 6:34

Worry is the enemy of peace, God invites you to cast your cares upon Him and then let go of them ( 1 Peter 5:7 )
