Is God Just About Love?

Is God just about Love? Did you know that God is also righteous and Holy?

Jesus is calling all to repent today even Christians, let’s looking into today’s teaching on knowing the core basic of Christianity, you are going to love it. Let now read in the books of Hebrews on core basics of every Christian.

Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God,

instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And God permitting, we will do so.

It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance.

We read here in Hebrews 6:1 that basics of Christianity for believers are “repentance from acts (sin) that lead to death”. The most fundamental thing when it comes to being a Christian is repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

The very reason why Jesus had to die was that of sin in this world since Adam sin where that we read in Genesis.

“When Adam sinned, sin entered the entire human race. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.” (Romans 5:12 NLT)

Jesus came with the message of repentance, and it was the core basics of everything that he preaches when He shares to people.

At the beginning of the gospel of Matthew, we see that John the Baptist came with this message.

“Repent, for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matt. 3:2 NASB).

As you can read, here, John came with the message of repentance. You might think, well it was John how about Jesus?

In Matthew 4, we see that Jesus was in the desert for 40 days and nights where He was tempted by the Devil. After 40 days, He began to preach the 1st message. Let’s see what He said:

“From that time Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Matt. 4:17 NASB)

In the gospel of Mark, Jesus said that the kingdom of God is near and they should repent and believe in the gospel ( Mark 1:15)

Here we always see that He first talked about repentance and then about faith. It might not be quite the same as we hear in churches today. Jesus said

“I have come to call sinners to turn from their sins, not to spend my time with those who think they are already good enough.” (Luke 5:32 NLT).

How important is repentance and joyful is it to Jesus for repentance than? Let’s read more

I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. – Luke 15:7 (NIV)

Jesus focuses a lot of his message on repentance but how often do we hear message on repentance today? Often we listen to sermons today on encouragement words of grace but how about repentance? As what we just read there is more rejoice that one sinner who repents than 99 people who think they are “righteous”. That how much joy our Lord Jesus has whenever you sincerely repent.

You see brother and sister, God does not measure his righteous by your deeds, attendance at church, worship or services which is all good but what He is more concern for you today are you living a life of repentance from sin?

Peter explains more in depth about repentance very clearly here

“So then, since Christ suffered physical pain, you must arm yourselves with the same attitude he had, and be ready to suffer, too. For if you are willing to suffer for Christ, you have decided to stop sinning.

And you won’t spend the rest of your life chasing after evil desires, but you will be anxious to do the will of God. You have had enough in the past of the evil things that godless people enjoy—their immorality and lust, their feasting and drunkenness and wild parties, and their terrible worship of idols.

Of course, your former friends are very surprised when you no longer join them in the wicked things they do, and they say evil things about you.

But just remember that they will have to face God, who will judge everyone, both the living and the dead.” (1 Peter 4:1-5 NLT).

Therefore, to repent is to have the right attitude to run away from evil desires and lust. Be mindful today we need to follow God’s will as what we just read.

We often think just because we said the sinner’s pray we are “saved” which is true as we read:

“Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13 NLT)

but we rarely hear this:

“Those who claim to belong to the Lord must turn away from all wickedness” (2 Tim. 2:19 NLT)
